Derk Garlick R.A.,LEED AP, Principal Architect
Derk is a registered architect in New York and New Jersey and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). His diverse career experience ranges from detail oriented high end-residential townhouses to complex performing arts facilities. Mr. Garlick received his Bachelor of Architecture with a Fine Art minor from the University of Idaho. He has participated as an academic juror at the University of Idaho and the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Garlick expresses his commitment to community and education by volunteering his time for the Habitat for Humanity and the local historic preservation council.
As Principal Architect and Supervisory Project Manager he provides design solutions and construction management services for technically complex new construction and renovation projects. Given the nature of projects within the New York City Metro area the project management demands and development are often complex and conflicting. Strategic resolution of public issues, zoning complexities, transit (subway) restrictions, and Historical concerns is paramount in the successful development of each project. Within this environment he effectively supervises, coordinates and implements all planning, development, design and construction management. His success is founded on an extensive knowledge of methods, practices and processes of engineering and architecture combined with a strong history of managing teams through complex multi-discipline projects. As an expert in his field he has provided legal testimony at local and regional planning and zoning hearings and has lead teams in the analysis, production and presentation of technical reports and visual aids to successfully obtain legal variances and approvals from governing authorities. As team leader for all construction management services provided by the firm, and the primary point of contact, he consistently help clients control cost, ensure quality of construction and assist with meeting project deadlines.
