Keep it light! A young professional couple from Hoboken, NJ purchased this penthouse apartment in the Maxwell building and contacted housing architect Derk Garlick Architects, LLC to provide a lighting design. The program grew from a simple lighting plan to providing paint colors, interior finishes and decorative fixture selection. The interdependency of each design decision with regard to the project as a finished piece of work often necessitates a deep level of design integration. A warm gray accent wall was implemented as a method to capture the gradual ever-changing reflected light from the Hudson River and Manhattan sky-scape. Custom fabricated light-bars were site-built to provide overhead ambient lighting while creating a dramatic play of linear casts of dark and light. Needless to say, this couple was pleased with the results that New Jersey architect Derk Garlick provided.
