A bar and a big flat screen TV was the only client request, everything else was over the top! This space, designed by renovation architect Derk Garlick, represents the epitome of every man's dream-space. The design evolved from a basic shoebox shaped basement to an extruded concave element that extends the full length of the space. The concave form was carved and shaped to allow for a full recessed bar, "Z" shaped custom Zen water feature and a series of indirect light coves. The custom cast translucent orange resin countertop provides a visually striking element and serves as a durable solution to the client's request for minimal maintenance. Walnut furniture and a natural wide plank walnut floor warms this modern aesthetic and provides a balancing backdrop to the stark white walls, white leather sofa and geometric stainless steel end tables. Derk Garlick certainly understands the needs of the man who wants an architect, and interior design is always part of the vision.
